What being androsexual means as more people come out

People have been identifying as ‘androsexual’, another term used to describe human attraction.

When it comes to the many facets of human sexuality, there are as many ways to be attracted to people as there are people.

Nonetheless, when it comes to describing our feelings or the sort of people we’re attracted to, language and terminology can be a useful tool for many.

In the past, even terms which are more common now such homosexual or non-binary were not around.

That’s not to say there weren’t people in history who we might now consider gay or non-binary, just that they would have used different language and ideas to describe themselves.

So what is ‘androsexual’, why are more people identifying with it, and why is it a useful term to have?

Those of you who know your Greek may have already twigged ‘andro-‘ and assumed this has something to do with masculinity, and you would be absolutely right.

‘Androsexual’ is an attraction to masculinity, whoever that masculinity is being expressed by.

You might be wondering, well why not just say you’re attracted to men?

With being androsexual you are attracted to masculinity, but not necessarily to men.

Who might use the term androsexual?

For example, if you’re a lesbian or bi woman, you might find that you are particularly drawn to women who present themselves in a more masculine way.

Likewise you may be pansexual, in that you are attracted to people of all gender identities, but find that it’s more masculine-looking people that you prefer whether they’re a woman, man, or non-binary person.

You could even be a straight man who is attracted to more masculine women, but not men.

The term is useful because it allows people to distinguish attraction to masculinity from attraction to men.

How do androsexual people describe their sexuality?

One person who identifies with the term androsexual wrote on Reddit: “I’m agender and AFAB [assigned female at birth] so it feels weird to say I’m heterosexual so there aren’t really any better words to describe my sexual identity (I’m attracted to cis/trans men/male presenting enbys [non-binary people]).”

Another agreed: “I also am attracted to men and masculine enbies and I use it because it’s what describes my attraction the best, even if my attraction doesn’t perfectly fit any of the definition.”

Androsexual is a particularly useful term for non-binary or gender-fluid people

It’s a useful label if you are non-binary or gender-fluid, in that your sense of your gender can change.

Being non-binary or gender-fluid can make figuring out your sexuality a bit more tricky, after all how can you be gay if some days you’re a man, some days a woman, and some days neither?

So for some people saying they’re attracted to the quality of masculinity or femininity rather than men or women is a useful way of thinking about that.

Of course that’s not to say you can’t be non-binary and straight or gay – everyone’s different and our relationship with ourselves is a deeply personal thing.

The word androsexual is very useful for people who find masculinity attractive, but not necessarily men.

And if a word gives someone the means to describe what they feel, that’s a good thing!

‘Graysexual’ explained as number of people who are coming out is on the rise

The sexuality is in a ‘gray area’, hence the name

Liv Bridge

‘Graysexuality’ is apparently on the rise as more and more people are identifying with the identity.

It’s widely accepted that identity is a spectrum, and likewise some believe sexuality is also less ‘black and white’ than traditional heteronormativity would have us think.

Millions of people around the globe now shun the gender binary view, identifying as non-binary or genderfluid under the LGBTQ+ umbrella amongst a long list of other alternative identities.

However, there’s a new kid on the bloc that has dozens are now saying aligns with how they feel called ‘graysexuality,’ or gray-A.

While the sexuality lends to the asexual spectrum, where people don’t tend to have any sexual attraction towards others or may not have a sexual orientation at all, gray-ace people don’t fully sit right with this definition.

People who can’t fully identify with the asexual definition might instead sit somewhere in the middle of having no sexual feelings at all to a conventional sense of attraction and/or sexuality.

As the name suggests, the sexuality is quite hard to define, posing a sexual ‘gray area’.

However, despite this, WebMD has given a good punt at it, stating it comes under three different types: sex-repulsed, sex-neutral and/or sex-positive.

What this means is a Gray-ace person might be repulsed by or disinterested in sex, or, at the other end of the spectrum, not repulsed but equally not actively seeking it out either.

Gray-ace people might be willing to have sex if they’re in a relationship or for pleasure if they’re sex-neutral or sex-positive.

It adds other common characteristics include not prioritizing sexual attraction in romantic partners, not considering sex as important and/or showing affection to their partner in other but non-sexual ways.

Licensed marriage and family therapist Shadeen Francis also told Men’s Health how a graysexual person might feel.

One of her examples included: “I feel like I experience attraction occasionally, but only in particular contexts.”

While another, “Maybe I like certain kinds of activities, but I’m repulsed by or turned off by others.”

“A person who identifies as graysexual is often a person who is saying that ‘my identity—my sexual orientation—exists in the gray,’” Francis added. “Graysexuality is part of the larger asexuality, or ace, umbrella.”

Experts stress the sexuality has no correlation to people who have a low sex drive or libido, which can be prompted by relationship or other lifestyle changes, like medication or illnesses.

Conversely, graysexual people might have a high libido in some circumstances.

Francis further said some people under the gray-A umbrella might share similarities with demisexuality, where people experience attraction after making a strong emotional connection with a specific person.

The Demisexuality Resource Center adds: “Some demisexuals also relate to other definitions of gray asexuality, such as finding experiences of sexual attraction confusing or hard to pin down… It is possible and valid to use both labels if they both apply.”

TikTok star who came out as ‘trigender’ explains what it really means

Content creator Emily Skvarch first came out as trigender is 2022

Niamh Shackleton

A TikToker who came out as trigender in 2022 has detailed what it means.

In 2022, content creator Emily Skvarch revealed to their TikTok followers that they identified as trigender.

However, such a label now won’t be accepted by the Trump administration, with President Donald Trump having recently signed a controversial executive order that states that there are only two genders – male and female.

The order titled ‘Defending Women From Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government’ says: “It is the policy of the United States to recognize two sexes, male and female. These sexes are not changeable and are grounded in fundamental and incontrovertible reality.”

Since the order was signed, transgender women will no longer be housed in female prisons, while Trump has also halted all ‘X’ passport applications; an option which allowed intersex and non-binary people to mark their sex as X rather than male or female.

While the government now only accept that there are two genders, it can’t and won’t change people like Emily from identifying differently.

Emily uses the pronouns she, he, and they, and recently shared a video to TikTok explaining what it means to be trigender in the wake of her original 2022 video doing the rounds online again.

In the newly shared clip, Emily said: “A little birdie told me that Facebook trumpets have come to my comment section yet again and it’s all based on that same two-and-a-half-year-old video of me first coming out on the internet.”

For those who haven’t seen the original video, Emily proceeded to reintroduce herself.

“Hi, I’m Emily and I go by any pronouns because I am trigender. Sort of like triangle, I am trigender: it means three,” they said.

“I am a man, a woman, and non-binary, all at once [and] all the time.”

Going on to explain further, Emily continued: “I would suppose that it’s similar to gender fluid and that you feel a range of gender, and for me I feel a large portion of that range at all times rather than flowing through that range like a gender fluid person would.”

According to VeryWellMind, trigender comes under the category of people who identify with more than one gender, which also includes bigender, pangender or gender fluidity.

Emily says a lot of people have been trying to antagonise her by calling her ‘triangle’, however, they think it’s the ‘cutest thing ever’ and she’s ‘all for it’.

“I kinda like who am I as a person,” Emily continued. “So I am not planning on changing my triangleness anytime soon and you will never be able to take that away from me.”

People have since applauded Emily for their explainer video and for addressing their critics.

One person commented: “Your trigender video when you uploaded it made me really sit and think about my own gender identity. So thank you for that!”

A second added: “I don’t understand why people care so much how other people live their life.. why not focus on promoting happiness instead of conformity.”

While a different person wrote: “Never change! You’re amazing!”

Why ‘world’s hottest felon’ has been celibate for three years as people see what he looks like now at 41

Jeremy Meeks’ career had a strange start

Britt Jones

A man who was called the ‘world’s hottest felon’ after his mugshot went viral has admitted he’s voluntarily celibate now after becoming famous.

If you don’t know the lore behind Jeremy Meeks, it’s a wild story.

It all began on Facebook in 2014, when Meeks’ blue eyes and chiselled cheek bones circulated online after the Stockton Police Department posted his booking photo and detailed his crime.

The image immediately brought him a fan base, and little did he know, he would become a celebrity.

At the time, he was facing five firearm charges and gang membership, per NBC affiliate KCRA 3, but when he got out, he ended up walking the runway for designers like Philipp Plein and Tommy Hilfiger.

He even became a movie star before he was given a multi-million-dollar fashion deal and free rein to create his own brand.

Meeks came from a broken home, telling the What’s Your Water podcast in 2019: “Both of my parents were heroin addicts. I was a heroin baby … My childhood was very dark. My dad committed a murder when I was nine months old and killed my mom’s best friend.”

He was in and out of prison for a decade before he was released for the last time in 2016 and walked into stardom.

Now 41, his life is very different, and so are his priorities.

While attending the Dutch III: International Gangster premiere in July, Meeks revealed that he’s been celibate for the past few years.

In 2018, Meeks divorced his wife Melissa Meeks after ten years of marriage.

The pair share a son and broke up after his affair with British actress Chloe Green, who bore his son in the same year as his divorce.

Away from the spotlight, Meeks confirmed in 2024 that he’s single, saying to PEOPLE in 2024: “I am single. I’m trying to focus on myself.”

In the clip, Meeks was asked about his ‘biggest turn on’, where he explained that he’s focusing on himself, stating: “I don’t have a girl. I’ve been celibate for almost three years.”

When asked why, Meeks replied: “Cause I’m not being distracted.”

Meeks previously spoke of how his fame could help him to look after those he loves, as after signing with White Cross Management, he told ABC: “I’m in a place where I will be able to provide for my family and really change my life.”

He said: “I’m in a place in my life where I am extremely vulnerable and want to tell my story, the whole story, and hope that people can connect to it.”

In a 2020 interview with Extra, Meeks also revealed that he was single but had managed to create better relationships with his ex-wife and Green.

“We’re all co-parenting. They are incredible mothers,” he said at the time.

After finding out about his celibacy, people online said he was doing the right thing.

One person wrote: “Good for him. That’s a lot of self control especially when you are hot,” as another said: “Good for him… glad life has turned around for him.”

Someone else wrote: “These guys be running the streets for years, until they’re tired then they wanna promote staying single and want to be a teacher.”

Singer Khalid forced to come out as gay after admitting he was ‘outed’

Khalid took to social media and insisted he hasn’t been hiding his sexuality

Khalid took to social media on Friday to open up about his sexuality after he was outed by an alleged former partner.

Singer Khalid doesn’t seem particularly fussed about people knowing his sexuality and insisted he hasn’t been hiding it.

In a bunch of posts on Twitter on November 22, the star simply said it really isn’t anyone’s business – which is fair enough.

He wasn’t even going to address the issue until fellow singer Hugo Almonte allegedly outed Khalid with his own post on social media.

While speaking about the artists he has had sex with he wrote that ‘one of your favorite gay R&B singers’ once offered him drugs and ‘tried to set me up and lie that I broke into his house.’

He also followed this message up with a post saying: “Gay artists that are out right now are sh**** as f***.”

He then followed up a post by sharing a photo of himself and Khalid.

While Khalid hasn’t responded specifically to the comments by Almonte, he did confirm that he was gay on his own page.

Sharing an emoji of the LGBTQ+ pride flag, he added: “There yall go. Next topic please lol.”

He followed this up with a reply to a social media user saying: “I am [gay] and that’s okay.”

Khalid made it clear he wasn’t so fussed about the quickly moving discussion about his sexuality online.

He added: “I got outted and the world still continues to turn. Let’s get this straight (lmao) I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality it ain’t nobodies business! But I am okay with me love yall.

“I wasn’t hiding anything! It’s just not any of your business.”

The singer even thanked a fan who defended him.

The fan shared a snippet from his 2022 song Satellite and said: “Then there was the LGBTQ anthem he gave us in 2022 but ya’ll kinda slept. Either way. hate that Khalid was forced out but he wasn’t ‘hiding’ it. He just didn’t need to TELL nobody.”

Khalid simply commented thank you and reiterated that he wasn’t holding.

Speaking to Rolling Stones, Almonte said the reason for his post was to ‘share how he tried to use his power to silence me because I simply ended our relationship,’ though did not name Khalid directly.

He added: “It’s crazy that these people said I was chasing clout, when I was holding onto this for five years, and I finally had enough.”

UNILAD has contacted Khalid representatives for comment.
